Chickens are a type of animal that live and lay eggs in a coop.

Description[]

Chickens come in five different varieties, with white and brown being the standard and the first available type. Chickens live in the Coop and lay Eggs on the floor that may be collected each morning for use in Crafting Artisan Goods and Cooking into meals.

Chickens can be named or have their name changed at any time. If they aren't named by the player, one is automatically selected at random from a pool of preset names and applied.

Sources[]

White and brown chickens can be bought as chicks from Marnie for Gold 800g once a coop is built on The Farm, with a random chance to be white or brown after selecting to buy. When the player is choosing a coop for the new chicken, the transaction can be canceled to try again for a different color.

The Incubator is used to hatch more chickens from egg, with the resulting chicken dependent on the egg type. Because of this, Blue Chickens can't be obtained this way. Instead, after the player experiences Shane's 8-heart friendship event, they have a 25% chance to be purchased from Marnie .

Void Chickens and Golden Chickens must be hatched from Void Eggs and Golden Eggs respectively, with the latter requiring a Deluxe Coop and the former requiring a Big Coop at minimum. Incubation time of all egg types takes about 5 days and 16 hours of game-time. Combined with the 3 days to reach maturity (assuming the chicks are fed each day), the player must wait just over a week before a new chicken starts to lay.

Chickens can lay up to one egg daily in the coop, either collected in the morning by the player or by an Auto-Grabber. Eggs can be crafted into various artisan goods and cooking products, which themselves can be consumed or sold. The frequency of eggs being laid, frequency of laid eggs being large, and the quality of the eggs are dependent on a few factors like chicken petting, feeding, and Friendship levels.

Friendship[]

Chickens develop friendships with the player that can increase or decrease and that determine the sell value of the chicken, the quality of the eggs they lay, and the chance of eggs being laid entirely. To consistently get high quality eggs and more of them, friendship levels must be increased by petting chickens and feeding them Hay daily.

The Auto-Petter can be obtained later in the game, replacing the time consuming task of petting each animal, as well as removing the friendship experience-gain penalty from the Auto-Grabber. Chickens that have not been cared for will gradually lose their friendship level as time passes.

Selling[]

To sell a chicken, the player can right-click the chicken after it has been pet to open an interface. Clicking the gold icon to the right of the window will sell the animal. With a maximum friendship level, white and brown chickens can be sold for Gold 1,040g.
