Cows live in a barn (or its bigger counterparts) and are purchased from Marnie.

Feeding[]

Cows eat Hay placed in the barn’s trough. Hay can be purchased from Marnie’s shop or harvested from the player’s farm (requires Silo and Scythe). If the player has a silo, the required amount of hay for the animals in the barn is dispensed from the hay bin (located left of the feeding trough).

Grazing[]

Cows can also be fed by allowing them to graze on the farm’s grass during the day. The animals will leave the barn if the barn door is open. To contain the cows, a fence may be built, though the cows being amongst crops will have no detrimental effect.

Milking[]

In order to extract milk from a cow, a Milk Pail is required (also sold by Marnie). Approach the cow and use the pail to receive Milk or Large Milk, depending in part on the cow’s heart level.

Heart levels[]

Heart levels are based on the treatment of the animals. Interacting with them daily (to see the heart bubble) will increase their heart level.

Heart levels may decrease by not feeding them regularly or leaving the barn door open overnight.

Pregnancy[]

Cows will become pregnant by themselves without any action by the player. During the night, the player will receive a notice that their animal gave birth.

To prevent pregnancy, it can be disabled through the animal information screen (which also shows heart level).
