The Desert Festival is an event that happens every year in the desert on Spring 15th, 16th, and 17th. Unlike non-festival days, you may enter the desert prior to when Pam arrives at the Bus Stop, and enter the event, though it officially starts at 10 AM. On the final day of the festival, you must wait until Pam arrives to drive the bus. As the desert requires the bus to be operational in order to visit, it is very unlikely you would be able to attend this festival during Year 1, based on the Vault bundles and other item requirements for the Community Center to even unlock it.
Like the Night Market, the Traveling Cart is also present, and appears to sell the standard randomized item pool. Also like the Night Market, there is a Shrouded Figure who will send you home to your warp statue for 250g. The Desert Trader is also present and accessible. Sandy's shop is not available, as she is helping Emily and enjoying the festival, however you can still enter the Oasis.
Each day of the Festival, you can receive one free outfit from Emily and Sandy, with a short cutscene. There is also a cactus seller who will give you one new cactus decor per festival. These new decors range in face and in design. Another booth at the festival is a Chef, who offers you various ingredient choices to make you a meal. Each meal has different effects, alongside the typical energy and health boost.
Calico Eggs[]
There are several ways to earn this event's currency, Calico Eggs.
Throughout the day, you can bet on the races that take place on which critter will win, which can be done repeatedly as long as a race is not taking place already. Winning the bet will net you 20 Calico Eggs. This is repeatable, whether you win or lose, until around 11 PM when the final race for the day ends. You can also cheat the race by giving the Suspicious Man next to the Oasis a Calico Egg in exchange for one of the race contestants losing.
There are various Challenges to complete for Willy and in the Skull Caverns respectively, which will also earn you Calico Eggs. Willy's will be fishing related, while the Adventurer's Guild will be combat or exploration related. Ex: Willy will ask for a missing Golden Bobber, which can be found in fishing chests at the desert pond, and you will receive 30 Calico Eggs in return. The Adventurer's Guild will ask you to slay 10 serpents.
Near the Calico Egg Merchant, up top, there is a Scholar who will ask you questions. If you answer all of them correctly, you will receive 50 Calico Eggs. This can only be done once per year, though the questions appear to remain the same: Where are we? Calico Desert What day is Pierres Store closed? Wednesdays How much does a pig cost? 16000g How many trash cans are there in Pelican Town? 8
The trash can to the left of the Calico Egg Merchant can be dug through daily, and contains Calico Eggs as well.
