Farming is an activity and a skill in Stardew Valley done on the player's farm. Players plant seeds in the ground, water them daily, and they will grow into harvestable crops that can be sold for a profit.
There are 40+ crops and fruit trees. [1]
Crops[]
There are many types of crops to grow. For each crop, there are also three different quality ratings, denoted by a star (or lack of one) on the icon of the crop in your inventory.
Star Type | Sell Value (% of original) | Energy/Health Value (% of original) |
---|---|---|
Regular | 100% | 100% |
Silver Star( | 125% | 140% |
Gold Star( | 150% | 180% |
Here are a selection of ones that have been identified. (Click green link to see complete info on crop. Energy and Health return are in the complete info.)

- Profit calculated for a crop planted on the first day and replanted immediately. Daily profit is for making quick money, which isn't related to repeating crops. Also, seasonal values SHOULD NOT include days of the season where the crop cannot be planted to harvest. (ex: Yams grow ever 10 days, a 3rd harvest will not yield any results, so 8 days of the season go to waste) This means seasonal profit WILL NOT always be daily profit x 28. (Please don't edit the page to show that, as I've noticed someone has)
- Sunflowers do not repeat, but they drop their own seeds, making every recurring crop free. Profits in the table do not consider the initial investment in seeds, since you get more seeds than you planted rendering the initial investment insignificant in the long run.
Suggestions:[]
You'll make money with anything, so feel free to have fun with it. But if you want to min/max then this seems best:
Spring:[]
- When starting out Potatoes offer the maximum return on investment, as they produce multiple per plant.
- Strawberries are by far the best from year 2 onward. If planted on 1st day of Spring, the profit-to-cost ratio reaches +500%. (seasonal profit of 140 if planted on day 13, and 500 if planted on 1st day)
- Over the entire season, the Green Bean offers the 2nd greatest profit-to-cost ratio (+300%).
- For mid season harvests, Rhubarb and Cauliflower can give a good return.
Summer:[]
- Blueberries all the way provide by far the highest return, due to their producing several yields.
- Together with the Keg, Hops can give 300g per day, but requires more work and an Kegs to process all the Hops. Try to keep a stock of hops for your Kegs to work all year round.
- Corn can last into the Fall, so can be a safe plant, but it doesn't provide as good a return as others.
Fall:[]
- Rare Seeds are by far the best, making 2000g per plot.
- Cranberries are amazing since they require very little work for a big payoff. If your field is too large to fill with your available funds, then filling it in with grapes is best.
- For easy mid season money, go with Artichoke from year 2 onward, otherwise Pumpkins work just as well but take longer. If you're tight on money, go with 2 harvests of Beets, then the Pumpkins.
Note: If the objective is to only earn gold and nothing else, and have unlimited farmland and energy, then replanted crops will give better profits.
Skills[]
Animal Related:[]
- Rancher - Animal products worth 20% more.
- Coopmaster - Befriend Coop animals quicker. Incubation time cut in half.
- Sheperd - Befriend Barn animals quicker. Sheep produce wool faster.
Crop Related:[]
- Tiller - Crops worth 10% more.
- Agriculturist - Crops grow 10% faster.

Fertilizer[]
Fertilizers can increase the quality of crops, make them grow faster, or retain moisture so the player doesn't need to water the soil as often.
