The Mines are a combat and mining-oriented location in Stardew Valley. They are located in the north-east of the map, past Linus' Tent.
Introduction[]
On the fifth day at the Farm, the player receives a letter regarding the Joja Corporation who has been mining a landslide blocking the way to the mine entrance. Upon entering, a scene introduces Marlon, who is standing at the ladder to the lower mine levels, and who provides a broken sword.
The mine has 120 levels in total, throughout which the player can find abundant resources such as Stone, Ore, Geodes and many other items. Crates and barrels can also be found and broken to obtain additional items.
The Dwarf[]
Inside the entrance of the mine, the player can see an obstructed path to the cave where the Dwarf resides. To get in the player must use a Steel Pickaxe or a combustible item, though these items may need to be obtained later. Meeting the Dwarf triggers him to talk in an unknown language and the player must obtain all of the Dwarven Scrolls (sometimes found within the mine) to decipher the language. Once the player is able to understand the Dwarf, he will sell rare items.
Exploring the Mines[]
The first few levels of the mine are typically full of rocks and are absent of monsters. To go deeper, players must find a ladder or craft a Staircase.
A ladder to the next level below generates in one (or all) of three ways: randomly spawning on the current level, by breaking rocks in the level, or by defeating Slimes, Bats and other Monsters. Sometimes more than one set of ladders may also appear on a level. In some cases a level may be infested/overrun (see below) presenting no ladders until the player defeats/slays all Monsters on that floor. The current mine level number appears in the upper-left corner of the player's screen. This number changes into a small, thin skull on levels where players must defeat all monsters in order to access the next ladder downward.
Additional transportation inside the mine includes an elevator that allows the player to move between floors in 5 floor intervals. Mine carts, once repaired via the Community Center, provide players with an additional method to travel to the mine (and other areas) faster.
To exit the mine, players may return to the ladder they previously used to get to the current floor, or can take the elevator if they are currently on an elevator level.
If a player passes out in the mines at 2am due to exhaustion (of energy) they lose 10% of their gold, or up to but not exceeding 1,000 gold. If the player passes plus due to defeat (health expended) they also lose that amount of gold plus they may lose items from inventory (excluding the Galaxy Sword. The player wakes up on the ground floor of the mine, with a villager standing beside them after being dragged/pulled out of the mine. Items can be reclaimed at the Adventurer's Guild by speaking with Marlon.
Combat[]
As the player finds themselves deeper in the mines, the enemies become increasingly difficult. At a certain point, they will have to find better weapons as they explore or by buying them at the Adventurer's Guild. Weapons appear randomly as players reach certain levels to find treasure chests, or as drops from monsters scattered throughout the mines.
Infested Floors[]
Some floors of the mine have a chance to be an infested area. Upon entering, popup appears, "This area is infested" or "This area is overrun with monsters". The area is occupied slimes or other monsters (sometimes mixed). Upon clearing the monsters, a popup appears, "A way down has appeared", creating ladder to next floor.
